Ambulance

✨ The rolling hospital

An ambulance is a vehicle specially equipped to provide emergency medical care and transport people who are ill or injured. Depending on the country and service, it may carry paramedics, emergency medical technicians, nurses, or other trained professionals.

Inside, there is equipment for checking vital signs and giving first aid, such as oxygen, a stretcher, bandages, monitoring devices, and medicines appropriate to the level of care provided. Some ambulances are designed mainly for transport, while others function as mobile treatment units. Their equipment and crew therefore vary according to the type of emergency and the local health system.

When an emergency call is received, a dispatch center can send an ambulance suited to the situation. The crew assesses the patient, provides necessary care at the scene, and decides whether transport is needed and which medical facility is appropriate. Emergency warning lights and a siren can help the vehicle move through traffic, although drivers must still follow applicable road-safety rules.

Ambulances are used for many situations, including serious injuries, breathing difficulties, sudden illness, and transfers between healthcare facilities. Their role is not simply to reach a patient quickly: safe assessment, treatment, monitoring, and appropriate transport are all important parts of emergency medical care.
