Artificial intelligence, often called AI, is a field of computer science that aims to create systems capable of performing tasks that usually require human intelligence. Unlike traditional computer programs that follow only fixed instructions, many AI systems can improve their performance by analyzing examples and identifying patterns in large amounts of information.

AI is based on different techniques, including machine learning, where computers learn from data, and neural networks, which are inspired by the way the human brain processes information. Today, artificial intelligence is used in many areas such as medicine, transportation, education, science, and communication.

It can help doctors analyze medical images, assist drivers, translate languages, or recommend content to users. However, AI systems also raise questions about privacy, reliability, employment, and fairness. Careful development and responsible use are important to ensure that artificial intelligence benefits society.

Do you know what the 'Turing Test' is? Created by Alan Turing in 1950, it is a game where a judge discusses in writing with a human and a machine without seeing them. If the judge cannot tell who is who, the machine is said to have passed the test! It is one of the first ways to imagine intelligence in a computer.

AI has already beaten the best humans in very complex games. In 1997, the computer Deep Blue beat the world chess champion Garry Kasparov. More recently, in 2016, the AI AlphaGo beat one of the best Go players in the world, an even more difficult game because it requires intuition and much more imagination than chess.

How does an AI learn to recognize a cat? It is shown millions of images labeled 'cat' and 'not a cat.' The computer looks for common points (pointed ears, whiskers, tail...). At first, it often makes mistakes, but through digital corrections whenever it makes an error, it becomes a tireless expert!
