Athletics

✨ Faster, higher, stronger

Athletics is a group of sports based mainly on running, jumping, and throwing. It includes track races such as sprints, middle- and long-distance events, hurdles, and relays, as well as field events such as the high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, hammer, and javelin. Some events take place on roads or other courses, including race walking and distance races.

Each event has its own rules and method of measurement. Running is measured by time, while jumping and throwing are measured by height or distance. Combined events combine several disciplines and test a wider range of abilities. Athletic performance depends on coordinated work between the brain, nerves, muscles, bones, and cardiovascular systems.

In a sprint, muscles produce force rapidly, and technique helps apply it efficiently to the ground. Endurance events rely more heavily on the body's ability to supply and use oxygen over time. Jumping and throwing also require precise timing, balance, and control of movement. Training can develop speed, strength, power, technique, or endurance, depending on the event.

Athletes improve through practice, recovery, and conditioning. In competition, small differences in reaction time, movement efficiency, or technique can affect the final result. Since athletics includes repeated high-intensity movements, warm-up, suitable equipment, and safe training are important.
