Brushing Teeth

✨ The Secret of a Sparkling Smile

Brushing your teeth is a simple daily action that helps keep the mouth healthy. A toothbrush removes dental plaque, a soft, sticky film made up of bacteria, food particles and other substances that forms on teeth. When plaque stays too long, bacteria can produce acids that damage enamel and contribute to tooth decay.

Plaque can also irritate the gums and contribute to gum disease. Toothpaste containing fluoride adds protection because fluoride helps strengthen enamel and makes teeth more resistant to acid attacks. Brushing is therefore an important part of preventing common oral problems.

For most people, dental professionals recommend brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, using a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle movements. Clean the outer, inner and chewing surfaces, including along the gumline, without scrubbing too hard. Brushing for about two minutes gives enough time to clean the mouth carefully.

A toothbrush does not clean every space between the teeth, so daily cleaning between teeth with dental floss or another suitable interdental cleaner can be useful. Replace the toothbrush or brush head when the bristles become worn, or about every three to four months. Young children need an age-appropriate amount of fluoride toothpaste and supervision until they can brush effectively on their own. Regular dental check-ups also help maintain good oral health.
