✨ The Great North Giant
Canada is the second-largest country in the world by total area and occupies most of the northern part of North America. It stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west, with the Arctic Ocean to the north. Canada shares its southern border with the United States and also has a maritime boundary with Greenland.
Its capital is Ottawa, while Toronto is the country's largest city by population. The landscape is highly varied, including the Rocky Mountains in the west, vast forests, fertile plains, Arctic tundra, thousands of lakes, and long coastlines. The Canadian Shield, a vast region of ancient rocks, covers much of the country's central and eastern interior.
Canada has a wide range of climates because of its enormous size and differences in latitude and altitude. The north is dominated by very cold conditions and tundra, while the southern regions generally have milder climates where most of the population lives. Large rivers such as the Mackenzie and the Saint Lawrence are important parts of the country's geography.
Canada also contains a large share of the world's freshwater lakes, including parts of the Great Lakes along the border with the United States. Its forests support diverse ecosystems and are an important natural resource. Agriculture is concentrated mainly in the southern plains, where crops such as wheat and canola are widely grown. English and French are the country's two official languages, reflecting its historical and cultural diversity.
