Carpenter

✨ The Wood Sculptor

A carpenter is a skilled craftsperson who works mainly with wood to build, install, repair, or modify structures and wooden components. Depending on the specialization, a carpenter may construct parts of buildings such as roof frames, floors, walls, doors, stairs, or other structural elements. The work begins with taking measurements and reading plans or drawings, followed by selecting suitable wood and marking, cutting, shaping, and assembling the pieces.

Traditional hand tools such as saws, chisels, and planes may be used alongside modern power tools and measuring equipment. Good knowledge of wood is important because its strength, moisture content, grain direction, and tendency to expand or shrink can affect the stability and durability of a finished structure. Carpenters may work with solid wood as well as engineered wood products such as plywood or laminated timber.

Safety and precision are essential throughout the job. Before cutting or assembling a component, the carpenter must take accurate measurements and choose appropriate methods of joining the pieces, using techniques such as screws, nails, bolts, or specialized joints. In structural work, the dimensions and connections must be suitable for the loads that the building element will carry. Wood also needs protection from excessive moisture and, when required, from insects, fungi, or fire.

Carpenters therefore follow construction standards and use protective equipment when operating machinery or handling materials. The profession combines practical skill, spatial understanding, careful planning, and knowledge of materials. Whether working on a new building or restoring an older structure, a carpenter helps create wooden elements that are functional, stable, and durable.
