Crustaceans

✨ Knights in armor

Crustaceans are a group of invertebrate animals that belong to the arthropod family. They include familiar animals such as crabs, lobsters, shrimps, and barnacles. Like other arthropods, crustaceans have a hard outer shell called an exoskeleton that protects their body.

Because this shell does not grow with them, they must regularly shed it in a process called molting. Most crustaceans live in aquatic environments, especially oceans and coastal areas, although some species can also be found in freshwater or on land.

Crustaceans have bodies adapted to many different ways of life. Their limbs can serve various functions, such as walking, swimming, capturing food, or defending themselves. Many species are important members of aquatic food chains, providing food for fish, birds, and other animals.

Humans also use many crustaceans as a source of food, including shrimp, crabs, and lobsters. Beyond their economic value, they contribute to the balance of ecosystems by participating in nutrient recycling and helping maintain healthy aquatic environments.
