Dromedary

✨ The desert king

The dromedary is a large mammal known for its single hump, which stores fat that can be used as an energy reserve when food is scarce. Contrary to a common belief, its hump does not contain water.

This animal is well adapted to dry environments: it can go for long periods without drinking, tolerate high temperatures, and reduce water loss thanks to several body adaptations.

Its long legs keep its body away from the hot ground, while its thick eyelashes and closable nostrils help protect it from sand and dust. Originally from the Arabian Peninsula, the dromedary has been domesticated for thousands of years and is now found in many desert regions around the world.

It is used for transport, milk production, and sometimes meat. Dromedaries usually feed on grasses, leaves, and thorny desert plants that many other animals cannot eat. They can survive in harsh landscapes where resources are limited, making them an important animal for many human communities living in arid areas.
