Europe
✨ The old continent with a thousand castles
Europe is one of the seven commonly recognized continents and lies mainly in the Northern Hemisphere. It is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and Asia to the east. The boundary with Asia is a geographical convention, usually traced along the Ural Mountains, the Ural River, the Caspian Sea, the Caucasus region, and the Black Sea, although definitions vary.
Europe has a relatively small land area, yet it contains many countries and varied landscapes. Its territory includes plains, mountain ranges, plateaus, forests, and long coastlines shaped by seas and peninsulas. The Alps form one of the continent’s major mountain systems, while the Scandinavian Mountains extend across the north.
Rivers such as the Danube, Rhine, Volga, and Seine have long supported transport, agriculture, settlement, and trade. Europe also includes large islands such as Great Britain, Ireland, Iceland, and Sicily. Its climate ranges from subarctic conditions in the far north to Mediterranean climates in the south, with oceanic and continental influences across much of the interior.
Europe has a long history marked by migrations, cultural exchanges, and political changes. Today, hundreds of millions of people live there, speaking many languages and following diverse traditions and forms of government.
