First Aid

✨ The Little Lifesaver's Guide

First aid is the immediate assistance given to someone who is injured or suddenly becomes ill before professional medical care is available. Its main goals are to preserve life, prevent the condition from getting worse, and support recovery. The first step is to make sure the area is safe for both the injured person and the helper. Next, check whether the person is conscious and breathing normally.

If there is no normal breathing, emergency services should be called immediately and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) started if the rescuer has been trained. For severe bleeding, firm direct pressure should be applied to the wound with a clean cloth or bandage. Burns are usually cooled with cool running water for at least twenty minutes, while suspected fractures should be kept as still as possible until medical help arrives.

Learning basic first aid allows ordinary people to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies. A well-stocked first aid kit often contains adhesive bandages, sterile dressings, bandages, antiseptic solution, disposable gloves, scissors, and a CPR face shield if available. However, first aid has limits and does not replace medical treatment.

Some situations, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe allergic reactions, stroke symptoms, major trauma, or poisoning, require urgent medical attention even if first aid has already been provided. Regular training helps people remember the correct actions and adapt them to different emergencies, making first aid an important skill that can reduce complications and, in some cases, save lives.
