Red Fox
✨ The clever ace with magic ears
The red fox is the most widespread wild member of the dog family. It lives across much of Europe, Asia, North America and parts of North Africa, adapting to forests, grasslands, mountains, farmland and even cities. Its reddish coat, pointed muzzle and bushy tail make it easy to recognize, although fur color can vary depending on the region.
The long tail helps the fox keep its balance while running and climbing, and it can also be wrapped around the body to conserve warmth during cold weather. An opportunistic omnivore, the red fox feeds on small mammals, birds, insects, earthworms, fruit and berries, changing its diet according to the season and the food available.
Its excellent hearing allows it to detect prey moving beneath snow or thick vegetation before making a precise leap to catch it. Red foxes are usually active from dusk until dawn and spend the day resting in dense vegetation or underground dens, especially while raising their young. They communicate through a wide variety of calls, body postures and scent markings that define territories and help individuals recognize one another.
During spring, the female gives birth to a litter of cubs that remain in the den for their first weeks of life before gradually exploring the surroundings. Thanks to their intelligence and adaptability, red foxes have successfully colonized many different environments. Even so, road traffic, habitat fragmentation, diseases and human persecution continue to affect some populations, making healthy ecosystems important for their long-term survival.
