Fracture

✨ SOS Broken Bones!

A fracture is a break or crack in a bone. It usually happens after a fall, a traffic accident, a sports injury, or another strong impact, although some fractures occur after only minor trauma when bones have been weakened by conditions such as osteoporosis. Fractures can be simple, with the bone remaining under the skin, or open, when the broken bone is associated with a wound.

Symptoms often include sudden pain, swelling, bruising, difficulty moving the affected limb, and sometimes a visible deformity. Doctors confirm most fractures with X-rays, although CT scans or MRI may be needed for complex injuries or fractures that are difficult to see on standard images. Treatment depends on the type, location, and severity of the fracture.

The broken bone must usually be kept in the correct position while it heals, using a cast, splint, brace, or, in some cases, surgery with metal plates, screws, rods, or pins. Bone healing is a natural process that generally takes several weeks or months, depending on the person's age, overall health, and the bone involved.

During recovery, pain control, rehabilitation exercises, and physiotherapy may help restore strength and movement. Eating enough calcium and vitamin D, staying physically active, and preventing falls also contribute to maintaining healthy bones and reducing the risk of future fractures.
