Insects

✨ The miniature world

Insects are a group of invertebrate animals that belong to the arthropod family. They are the most diverse group of animals on Earth, with more than a million described species and many others that have not yet been identified. Insects have a body divided into three main parts: the head, the thorax, and the abdomen.

Most species have six legs, antennae that help them sense their surroundings, and many have wings that allow them to move through the air. Their outer covering, called an exoskeleton, protects their body and provides support. Insects live in almost every environment, from forests and deserts to freshwater areas and urban spaces.

They play essential roles in ecosystems by pollinating plants, breaking down organic matter, and serving as food for many other animals. Some insects live alone, while others, such as ants and bees, form highly organized communities.

Although certain insects can spread diseases or damage crops, most species are beneficial or harmless to humans. Protecting insect diversity is important because these small animals contribute greatly to the balance and functioning of natural environments.
