Lamp

✨ The shadow hunter

A lamp is a device designed to produce or direct light so that an area can be illuminated. A typical lamp has a light source, such as an LED, a fluorescent tube, or an incandescent bulb, along with parts that provide electrical power, support the light source, and control or direct the light. In a household lamp, electricity flows through a circuit when the switch is turned on, allowing the light source to operate.

LED lamps produce light when electric current passes through semiconductor materials and are widely used because they generally consume less electricity and last longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. Different lamps are designed for different purposes, including reading, general room lighting, work areas, and outdoor spaces. The shape and position of a lamp affect how light spreads through a space.

A lampshade or reflector can reduce glare, protect the light source, or direct more light toward a particular area. Some lamps provide a broad, diffuse illumination, while others concentrate light into a narrower beam. Modern lamps may include adjustable brightness, different color temperatures, timers, or automatic controls. Portable lamps can run from batteries, while others are connected to an electrical outlet or a fixed electrical installation.

Besides making objects easier to see, appropriate lighting can support activities such as reading, studying, cooking, or working. Because lamps may become warm and electrical parts can present hazards if damaged or used incorrectly, they should be kept in good condition and used according to their instructions.
