African Lion

✨ The king of the savanna

The African lion is one of the most famous large cats in the world and is recognized by the male’s mane, powerful body, and social way of life. Unlike most other big cats, lions usually live in groups called prides, which are often made up of related females, their cubs, and a small number of adult males.

The mane of adult males varies in color and size and may help signal age and strength. Lions are skilled predators with strong jaws and sharp claws, and they often work together when hunting large prey such as zebras, antelopes, and buffalo.

African lions live mainly in savannas, grasslands, and some dry areas of sub-Saharan Africa. They spend much of their time resting and conserving energy, especially during the hottest parts of the day. Females usually do most of the hunting and cooperate to raise the cubs, while males often help defend the group’s territory.

Young lions learn important survival skills through play and observation. Although lions are adaptable animals, many populations have declined because of habitat loss, reduced prey, and conflicts with humans.
