Lizard

✨ The agile little lizard

Lizards are reptiles that belong to the group Squamata, which also includes snakes. They are found on every continent except Antarctica and live in many different environments, from deserts and forests to grasslands and rocky areas. There are thousands of lizard species, ranging from tiny geckos only a few centimeters long to large monitor lizards several meters in length.

Most lizards have four legs, a long tail, and skin covered with scales that help protect their bodies and reduce water loss. Many species are excellent climbers, while others are adapted for digging, running, or living near water. Lizards have developed many ways to survive in their environments.

Some can detach part of their tail when attacked by a predator, a process called autotomy, and later regrow a shorter version. Others use camouflage to blend into their surroundings or change their body position to regulate temperature. Their diet varies greatly depending on the species: many eat insects and other small animals, while others feed mainly on plants or a combination of different foods.

Lizards play important roles in ecosystems by controlling insect populations and serving as food for other animals. Although many species are common, some face threats from habitat destruction, climate change, and human activities.
