Mammals

✨ Our hairy cousins

Mammals are vertebrate animals that share several common characteristics. Most of them have hair or fur, breathe with lungs, and females produce milk to feed their young. Mammals are warm-blooded animals, which means they can maintain a relatively stable body temperature despite changes in their surroundings.

This group includes a wide variety of species, from tiny bats and rodents to large whales and elephants. Mammals live in almost every environment on Earth, including forests, oceans, deserts, and polar regions. Mammals have developed many different adaptations that help them survive in diverse habitats.

Some species walk on land, others swim, and some can fly, such as bats. Their diets are also varied: some eat plants, some hunt other animals, and others have mixed diets. Mammals play important roles in ecosystems as predators, prey, seed dispersers, and contributors to natural balances.

Humans are also mammals and have a close relationship with many other species through farming, research, and companionship. Protecting mammal diversity is important because many species are threatened by habitat loss, climate change, and human activities.
