Metabolism

✨ The Engine of Life

Metabolism is the set of chemical processes that take place inside the body to keep it alive and functioning. These processes allow cells to transform nutrients from food into energy, build and repair tissues, and regulate many essential functions. Even when a person is resting, the body continues to use energy to maintain breathing, blood circulation, body temperature and the activity of organs.

This basic energy expenditure is called the basal metabolic rate. Metabolism involves two main types of reactions: breaking down molecules to release energy and building new molecules needed by the body. The speed and efficiency of metabolism vary from one person to another depending on factors such as age, body composition, genetics, physical activity and hormones.

Food choices and daily habits can influence how the body uses energy, but metabolism is not the only factor that determines body weight. Regular physical activity, a balanced diet, good sleep and overall health all play important roles in maintaining proper energy balance. Some conditions or medications can also affect metabolic processes.

Understanding metabolism helps explain how the body obtains and uses energy, but it does not mean that it can be simply accelerated or slowed down through a single food or method. A healthy metabolism depends on the complex interaction between many biological systems working together.
