Minotaur
✨ The labyrinth guardian
The Minotaur is a creature from Greek mythology, described as a being with the body of a human and the head of a bull. According to ancient stories, he was the son of Pasiphae, the wife of King Minos of Crete, and a sacred bull sent by the god Poseidon.
Because of his frightening nature, King Minos ordered the architect Daedalus to build a vast underground structure called the Labyrinth, where the Minotaur was kept hidden. The myth is mainly known through Greek and Roman authors, although its details changed depending on the version of the story.
In the legend, the Athenian hero Theseus enters the Labyrinth to defeat the Minotaur and end the tribute of young people sent from Athens to Crete. With the help of Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos, Theseus finds his way out by following a thread after defeating the creature.
The story of the Minotaur has been interpreted in many ways, often as a tale about fear, isolation, and the struggle between reason and violence. Today, the Minotaur remains one of the most recognizable figures of Greek mythology and continues to appear in literature, art, and popular culture.
