Mosaic

✨ The giant puzzle of colors

Mosaic is an art technique that consists of creating images or patterns by assembling small pieces of materials placed next to each other. These pieces, called tesserae, can be made from stone, ceramic, glass, marble, or other materials. Artists arrange them on a surface and fix them with a binding material to form a larger composition.

The size, color, shape, and arrangement of the pieces influence the final appearance of the artwork. Mosaics can decorate floors, walls, ceilings, and objects, and they have been used in many cultures for both artistic and architectural purposes.

Throughout history, mosaic art has appeared in numerous civilizations, from ancient Mesopotamia and Greece to the Roman Empire and the Byzantine period. Romans widely used mosaics to decorate villas, public buildings, and religious spaces, while Byzantine artists developed complex compositions with rich colors and symbolic themes.

Today, mosaic continues to be practiced by artists who combine traditional methods with modern materials and ideas. Beyond decoration, mosaics are valued for their durability and their ability to create detailed images through the careful arrangement of individual pieces. This art form shows how small elements can come together to create a unified visual work.
