Octopus
✨ The Eight-Armed Magician
The octopus is a marine mollusk known for its eight arms, soft body, and remarkable ability to adapt to its surroundings. Unlike many mollusks, it does not have an external shell, which allows it to move through narrow spaces between rocks and coral.
Each arm is covered with hundreds of suction cups that help it sense its environment, hold objects, and capture prey such as crabs, fish, and other small animals. Octopuses are also famous for their intelligence: they can solve simple problems, learn from experience, and remember information.
Living in oceans around the world, octopuses usually hide in dens among rocks, reefs, or the seabed. They can change the color and texture of their skin thanks to specialized cells, allowing them to blend into their surroundings or communicate with other octopuses.
When threatened, some species can release a cloud of ink to confuse predators and escape. Octopuses have a short lifespan compared with many other marine animals, and after reproduction the female usually stops feeding while caring for her eggs until they hatch. These fascinating animals play an important role in marine ecosystems as both predators and prey.
