Paella
✨ Golden sunshine on the plate
Paella is a traditional Spanish rice dish that originated in the region of Valencia, on the eastern coast of Spain. It is cooked in a wide, shallow pan called a paella, which allows the rice to cook in a thin layer.
Traditional recipes often include rice, olive oil, vegetables and various proteins such as chicken, rabbit or seafood, depending on the region and local customs. The dish is known for the way the rice absorbs the flavors of the ingredients and the cooking broth, often creating a slightly toasted layer at the bottom called socarrat.
Originally prepared by farmers and workers in the Valencian countryside, paella was a practical meal made with available local ingredients. Over time, different versions appeared throughout Spain and around the world, including seafood and mixed varieties.
Although recipes vary, paella remains closely connected to Spanish culinary traditions and social gatherings, where it is often prepared and shared among family and friends. Its history reflects the relationship between local agriculture, regional products and collective dining.
