Giant Panda

✨ The big black and white teddy bear

The giant panda is a mammal native to the mountain forests of central China, especially areas with dense bamboo growth. Although it belongs to the bear family, its diet is very different from that of most bears. Bamboo makes up almost all of its food, and a panda spends many hours each day eating to obtain enough energy.

Its strong jaws and large molars allow it to crush tough bamboo stems. The panda also has a special wrist bone that works like an extra thumb, helping it hold bamboo while feeding. Its thick fur and layer of body fat help it withstand the cool temperatures of its mountain habitat.

Giant pandas usually live alone, except during the breeding season or when females are raising their young. After birth, the tiny cub remains dependent on its mother for many months before gradually becoming more independent. Pandas communicate through sounds and scent markings that help them recognize other individuals.

Habitat loss once caused a major decline in their numbers, but conservation efforts, including habitat protection and breeding programs, have helped improve their situation. The giant panda remains a symbol of wildlife conservation around the world.
