Primates
✨ Our agile cousins
Primates are a group of mammals that includes lemurs, monkeys, apes, and humans. They are known for their flexible hands, forward-facing eyes, and relatively large brains compared with many other mammals of similar size.
Most primates have hands adapted for grasping objects, with fingers that allow them to climb, handle food, and interact with their environment. Their eyes facing forward provide better depth perception, which is especially useful for moving through trees.
Primates live mainly in tropical and subtropical regions, although some species also inhabit colder areas. They have diverse diets that may include fruits, leaves, insects, seeds, or small animals, depending on the species.
Many primates are social and live in groups where they communicate through sounds, gestures, and facial expressions. Some species show complex behaviors such as cooperation, learning, and tool use. Today, many primates face threats from habitat loss, hunting, and climate change, making their conservation important for protecting biodiversity.
