✨ High-Tech Replacement Limbs
A prosthesis is an artificial device designed to replace a missing body part or restore part of its function. Prosthetic limbs are commonly used after an amputation caused by injury, disease, or a congenital condition present at birth. However, prostheses also include artificial joints such as hip or knee replacements, dental prostheses, artificial eyes, and some implanted heart valves.
They are made from materials chosen for their strength, light weight, durability, and compatibility with the human body. Every prosthesis is carefully adapted to the person's anatomy, lifestyle, and specific needs to improve comfort, safety, and everyday function. Modern prosthetics combine medicine, engineering, and rehabilitation.
Some artificial limbs use advanced materials and microprocessors that adjust movement while walking, and certain models can respond to muscle signals from the user's body. Even with these technological advances, learning to use a prosthesis usually requires rehabilitation and physical therapy to improve balance, strength, and coordination.
Regular follow-up appointments are also important because the body and the prosthesis may change over time. Although a prosthesis cannot completely replace a natural body part, it can greatly improve mobility, independence, participation in daily activities, and quality of life for many people.
