Proteins

✨ Body Builders

Proteins are nutrients made up of smaller molecules called amino acids. They are essential for the body because they help build and repair tissues, support the immune system, produce enzymes and hormones, and maintain many important functions. Some amino acids can be produced by the body, while others, known as essential amino acids, must come from food.

Proteins are found in many foods, including meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes, nuts, seeds and some grains. Animal proteins generally contain all essential amino acids in sufficient amounts, while plant proteins can also provide them when a varied diet includes different sources.

The amount of protein a person needs depends on factors such as age, body size, physical activity level and health condition. Protein is particularly important during periods of growth, recovery after illness or injury, and when building or maintaining muscle tissue.

However, eating more protein than the body needs does not automatically lead to greater strength or better health. A balanced diet that includes adequate protein along with carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water helps the body function properly. Choosing a variety of protein sources allows the body to receive the different amino acids it requires.
