✨ The School of courage and oval balls

Rugby is a team sport in which players carry, pass and kick an oval ball while trying to score in the opponent’s in-goal area. In rugby union, the standard form has 15 players per team on the field. Players may run with the ball and pass it sideways or backward to a teammate; a forward pass is not allowed. Kicking can send the ball forward. A team scores a try, worth five points, by grounding the ball in the opponent’s in-goal area. After a try, a conversion kick can add two points.

Penalty goals and drop goals are worth three points, while a penalty try is worth seven. The field of play can be up to 100 metres long and 70 metres wide, with in-goal areas beyond the try lines. Matches involve phases such as tackles, rucks, mauls, scrums and lineouts. The rules also include an offside law that limits where players can position themselves in relation to the ball and teammates. Rugby combines endurance, speed, strength, coordination and decision-making.

During a sprint or tackle, muscles generate force that is transmitted through the legs and trunk, while balance helps players control their movements when changing direction or making contact. Running with the ball requires acceleration and the ability to evade or withstand an opponent. Passing and kicking depend on precise coordination between vision, the nervous system and the muscles. A match alternates between intense actions and lower-intensity periods, so players rely on both aerobic and anaerobic energy systems.

Regular training can improve cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, speed, agility, coordination and the ability to repeat high-intensity efforts. Because rugby is a contact sport, collisions and tackles can cause injuries, making safe technique and respect for the laws essential. Players need appropriate physical preparation, and training should progress according to age and experience. Rules and coaching methods are designed to reduce unnecessary danger while preserving the physical and tactical character of the game.
