Sweater / Jumper
✨ A warm hug of soft wool
A sweater is a knitted garment worn on the upper body to provide warmth and comfort in cool or cold weather. It usually covers the torso and arms and is worn over a shirt, T-shirt or other light clothing. Sweaters may have a round neck, V-neck, turtleneck or zippered opening, and some include buttons or hoods.
They are made from natural fibers such as wool, cotton or cashmere, synthetic fibers like acrylic and polyester, or blends that combine the advantages of several materials. The thickness, knitting technique and type of fiber influence warmth, breathability, elasticity and durability. Some sweaters are intended for everyday wear, while others are designed for outdoor activities, sports or traditional clothing.
Knitted garments have existed for many centuries, although the modern sweater became especially popular during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as textile manufacturing developed. Wool remains widely used because its fibers trap air, helping the body retain heat while still allowing moisture to escape.
Today, textile engineers continue to improve sweaters by developing lighter yarns, recycled fibers and fabrics that balance insulation, comfort and resistance to wear. Beyond their practical purpose, sweaters are also part of cultural traditions and fashion around the world. Their colors, patterns and styles often reflect regional heritage, seasonal trends and personal preferences while remaining one of the most versatile items of clothing.
