T-shirt
✨ The world's simplest garment
A T-shirt is a lightweight garment worn on the upper body, usually with short sleeves and a round neckline. Its name comes from the shape formed by the body and sleeves, which resembles the letter "T" when laid flat. Most T-shirts are made from knitted fabrics such as cotton, although polyester, viscose and blended fibers are also common.
The choice of material influences softness, breathability, stretch, moisture management and durability. T-shirts may be plain or decorated with printed images, embroidery or logos. They are worn on their own in warm weather or as a base layer beneath other clothing, making them one of the most versatile garments in modern wardrobes.
The modern T-shirt developed during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries from lightweight undergarments. Over time, it became popular as everyday clothing thanks to its comfort, simple design and ease of manufacture. Today, T-shirts are produced for casual wear, sports, work uniforms and promotional events.
Textile manufacturers continue to improve fabrics by developing lighter fibers, recycled materials and techniques that increase durability while reducing water and energy use during production. Beyond its practical role, the T-shirt has become a widely used medium for artistic expression, cultural identity and personal communication through its colors, patterns and printed messages.
