Future

✨ The horizon of possibilities

The future is the part of time that has not happened yet. It includes the next moment, tomorrow, next year, and events that may occur much farther ahead. Unlike the past, which we can study through memories, records, and traces, the future cannot be observed directly. We can, however, make plans and form expectations from what we know now.

Clocks and calendars help us organize these periods, while scientific models can describe how some systems may change over time. For example, astronomers can calculate the future positions of planets with great precision when the relevant conditions are well understood.

Even so, a calculation is not the same as a guarantee: many events depend on several changing factors, and some are impossible to predict exactly. Thinking about the future also helps us understand the difference between a possibility, a prediction, and a plan.

A possibility is something that could happen; a prediction is an informed statement about what is likely to happen; a plan is a decision about what we intend to do. These ideas are useful in everyday life, from preparing for school to anticipating weather. The future is therefore not simply a distant place in time. It is a set of possibilities that gradually becomes the present, while our knowledge and choices help us prepare for what comes next.
